This trail starts near an old port in Ribeirinha parish. Along his 48 km of high difficulty, we are transported to other times when the inhabitants used this “roads” to carry goods by their own means or supported by animals between the villages. Passing by a destroyed lighthouse in a big seismic crisis in 1998 that keeps remind us the volcanic nature of this islands and they’re people, a big part of the trail is made in the biggest and most spectacular “Graben” of the archipelago, a big piece of land that collapsed between two tectonic faults. The trail ends at the central caldera, the biggest and most important volcano of the island, were its made the connection to the Ten Volcanos Trail. The trail is made in areas of the Nature Park of Faial, considered a European Destiny of Excellence (EDEN) by the European Commission and only in Portugal with this classification, and transport us to a journey in time, in the history of the geology and colonization of Faial, it goes along from coast to coast in the direction of the formation of the island, from East to the West. It starts in lands with 800 thousand years, passes by a central area with 450 thousand years and ends in one of the most important geologic places in the world, the sleepy Capelinhos Volcano.
